The purpose of the General Assembly held on November 30, 2024 a the Community Hall in Good Hope Lake, BC, was to review and vote on the ratification of the proposed DEASE RIVER INDIAN BAND CUSTOM ELECTION REGULATIONS (the2024 Amended Regulations) to replace the current Regulations for the Custom Elections of the Chief and Council of the Dease River Band.
The vote to ratify the 2024 Amended Regulations was defeated by a vote of 19 in favour and 27 opposed, with one abstention.
As a result, the January 24, 2025 election for Chief and Council will be conducted according to the Regulations for the Custom Elections of the Chief and Council of the Dease River Band, a copy of which can be viewed and/or downloaded at this link, including the official Notice of Court-Ordered Election, January 24, 2025.
The election will be for a Chief and four Councillors for a two-year term. All members of the Dease River First Nation who are sixteen (16) years of age or over are eligible to vote and to make nominations. This notice is dated December 2, 2024, and will also be posted in the community.
